The macro-economic context is favourable in France this year, with growth forecast at 1.9% and increased confidence among individuals and businesses. These forecasts open up prospects for banks to develop their financing and savings offers, but also to propose new services.

Indeed, the volume of real estate loans should continue to be driven by the dynamism of the real estate market, while consumer loans should benefit from the renewed confidence of households. These loans will be stimulated by the low interest rate environment, which should last at least until the end of the year, as the ECB is not expected to significantly raise its key rate before the end of 2018. On the other hand, the restoration of banks’ interest margins in 2018 should be slow, especially as home loans are fully integrated into the strategy for winning over customers. So, the passing on by financial institutions of a rise in the key rate could experience some inertia…
